United adds iPod/iPhone hookups to int'l flights

United Airlines on Monday said it is the first U.S. Carrier to offer iPod and iPhone connectivity to its in-flight entertainment systems. The hook-ups will allow passengers to view video content on their own 15.4 inch �personal television� as their iPod or iPhone charges. United says the upgrades will be installed in first and business class in its entire international widebody fleet over the next two years.

Flight #936 from Washington, D.C. To Zurich is the first to get the upgraded equipment, which is manufactured by Panasonic Avionics. Passengers will be able to charge their devices and watch videos through a 30-pin connector at their seats.

"Our guests may now watch or listen to what they want, when they want with programming they choose," said Graham Atkinson, United Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer.
