Scanbuy on Wednesday unveiled ScanLife, a new iPhone application that allows users to create and scan 2D barcodes that link users to websites, products, and services. ScanLife can automatically launch any URL, as well as any iTunes page or YouTube video when connected to WiFi. Barcodes can be embedded on advertisements, TV shows, and other media. The software itself requires an account with Scanbuy, but carries no cost for either ScanLife or the subscription.
"The iPhone represents a reinvention of the mobile phone that seeks to enable better navigation and easier access to information, making it perfectly compatible with Scanbuy's objectives," said Jonathan Bulkeley, Chief Executive Officer of Scanbuy. "We are committed to expanding 2D barcode usage, and iPhone compatibility is a significant step in engaging key mobile adopters and reaching millions of new consumers worldwide."
Scanlife is currently available from the iTunes App Store.
