Check Point Software Technologies on Monday announced Check Point VPN-1 support for the iPhone, allowing the popular device to access virtual private networks through its gateways. Check Point VPN-1 now supports the L2TP client found in all current and future iPhone versions to provide immediate IPsec VPN access to corporate servers. Check Point VPN-1 is available through a number of the company's various products, with pricing dependant on the coupled hardware.

"With the success of the iPhone, IT departments received multiple requests to connect the new devices to the corporate network," said Bob Egner, vice president of product management at Check Point. "The diversity of personal equipment in the work place makes the enforcement of security policies difficult. We offer security solutions and single management across the many endpoint devices available to corporate professionals. For the iPhone, Check Point created a simple configuration that provides instant, secure connectivity through VPN-1 gateways."

Using VPN-1, administrators can make use of shared secret password and certificates with user-specific login credentials for each iPhone. Check Point claims the feature eliminates the need for a company's IT department to create a separate gateway authentication key for each device, allowing for simple deployment.
